Flow Cytometry Application Scientist

Beckman Coulter develops, manufactures and markets products that simplify, automate and innovate complex biomedical testing. Job description:

The Flow Cytomertry Applications Scientist evaluates product improvements and changes, where a review of identifiable factors and data analysis is required.

The Flow Cytomertry Applications Scientist may also design and help develop product improvements or enhancements. Products involved include advanced flow cytometry analyzers used in various fields of research.
 
The incumbent develops "systems" expertise on assigned products; performs experiments to characterize product performance and/or troubleshoot product performance issues. May assist in acquiring technical information for Marketing and Sales regarding product performance, competitive features and clinical requirements; and/or assist in the preparation of technical articles for publication in professional journals and company literature.

Focus areas include: Optimize application parameters for achievement of design inputs and flow cytometry performance specifications.

Testing of software and/or flow cytometry applications updates, and system component changes, for verification of functionality. Specific tasks associated with this position include initial set-up and alignment of advanced flow cytometer systems, application set-up, parameter selection and gating, performing specimen analysis, data interpretation, analysis, and documentation.

Must be able to work independently, must be able to collaborate with other scientific personnel and to use a "systems thinking" approach to identify problems and troubleshoot complex issues.

Requires Bachelor's degree in field with 5+ years experience OR Master's degree in field with 3+ years experience.

Experience with flow cytometry research applications and associated laser optics desirable.

Staff Technical Operations Scientist

The Staff Technical Operations Scientist identifies and resolves complex technical issues with current products or qualifies enhancements to existing or modified product configurations. The incumbent performs comprehensive tests using advanced experimental design and analyzes results using sophisticated statistical data analysis, effectively resolves complex technical problems and utilizes the scientific method as the foundation for problem solving. The incumbent exhibits very strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to promote and debate key issues. The Staff Technical Operations Scientist plans and priorities daily and weekly work assignments, leads and participates on several CPI teams or problem solving efforts, and for quality and quantity of work, sets the example for lower level personnel. The incumbent participates on technology transfer teams, presents and discusses technical and non-technical aspects of assignments with lower level personnel, peers, or upper level positions, works effectively with all level positions within and outside the department, unifies team efforts, resolves conflict with team or project issues presenting unresolved issues to upper level positions, for resolution, tactfully and responsibly. The Staff Technical Operations Scientist is sensitive to project priorities and their impact on the immediate business unit as well as corporate goals and objectives. The incumbent helps higher level positions ensure customer needs are met.

A master or a Ph.D in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Polymer Chemistry or Molecular Biology preferred. Experience in Flow Cytometry and/or Particle Characterization preferred.
